“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers — strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”

— Barbara Katz Rothman

Testimonials

“Amy is kind, Passionate about birth, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable! She is the perfect example of birth being heart-centered work and fills the cups of women she works with. I cannot recommend her highly enough to any woman who wants to be empowered to make autonomous decisions about their body and birth.”

— Elizabeth Charron

“Amy is compassionate, educated on evidence based birth practices and a calming person. I loved meeting with her monthly during my pregnancy to talk over my hopes of birth and also just to have someone to discuss daily challenges that come along with being pregnant. She was incredible during my birth and invaluable after when I needed someone to speak up for my wishes with hospital staff when I was too overwhelmed to.”

— Hadley Parritz

“My husband and I are so glad that we had Amy to help us! We are first time parents and hiring Amy as our doula really helped me to feel like I had extra support and guidance how to prepare for my labor and delivery,, and that my husband also had someone to help him and show him how to be there for me during that time. It was also helpful to know we had someone experienced who can guide us through the process even when at the hospital. Amy was very understanding and easy to work with, and we also appreciated her fun and friendly attitude.”

— Jeanelle Gibbs

“Amy was so helpful in answering all my questions and providing resources. She is a skilled space holder and is direct when communicating with other providers. I so appreciated having her support before, during, and after birth.”

Births often don’t go as planned. Being clear about what you want and why you want it will help you see and understand the big picture of your wishes. This makes it easier to pivot when unexpected things come up. This preparation is not about achieving your perfect dream birth experience. It is about knowing your truth so that you can feel good and powerful with your choices, no matter the outcome.

This is your parenting journey and your story.

What do I  offer as a Birth Doula?

Prenatal

I offer all of my birth clients monthly one hour prenatal visits. These can happen where ever you chose and doing whatever you want. We can take a walk around the park, get a coffee or lunch, go grocery shopping or sit in your living room. You call the shots!

I require all of my clients take a birth education course.

COMING SOON!!! Access to my virtual, self-paced birth education course! Get excited!

You also get access to my birthing year email list, with weekly emails that follow each stage of your pregnancy. This is my road map guide to the choices you’ll make throughout your birthing year.

Get Clear

  • We will discuss what you want for your pregnancy, birth and postpartum, why you want these things and how you plan to get them.

  • We’ll cover all the big choices that you will make throughout pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.

  • Then we will use this information to create a flexible guide to give to your birth team so that everyone is on the same page.

Physical Support

  • We will discuss and practice labor coping strategies.

  • Other possibilities include organizing baby stuff, prepping meals for labor and postpartum, going grocery shopping and creating a nutrition plan.

Remote support

  • Have questions? You will have my email address and phone number to reach me whenever you think of something. I do my best to respond to questions within 12 hours.

Labor and Birth

On Call

  • I go on call at 37 weeks until you give birth.

When to call me when you’re in labor

  • I come when you want me there. I can support you at home before you transfer to the hospital or meet you at the hospital (in the case of a hospital birth). I also support families at home during assisted and unassisted home births.

During labor

  • How I support you during labor is very subjective and something we will discuss in our prenatal meetings. I offer light back massages, hip squeezes, affirmations, cold/hot compresses, drinks, food, and any other comfort measures that will keep you strong and focused. Sometimes this can look like me sitting in the corner out of the way knitting and listening. If you need me I will be there. Often, just knowing that I am there for you if you need me, is all you need to get through.

  • I am TENS Unit trained and certified (let me know if this is something you’re interested in). I also have peanut balls in multiple sizes (40cm, 50cm and 80cm), massage tools, twinkle and tea lights for hospital rooms, a portable diffuser and E.O. inhalers, a bluetooth speaker for your labor/birth playlist and I also like to make Laborade for all my birth clients.

How long will I stay with you

  • I will stay with you during your whole labor until you give birth. In the case of really long labors I may take short breaks, but I will work with your partner or other support people to make sure you always have support. If I need an extended break, I have a close network of back up doulas that I can call on if I need to. This is something I would use in extreme circumstances only (as in multiple days of labor without sleep).

  • After you give birth, I will stay with you for a couple of hours.

Postpartum

Hospital visit

  • If you want I will come to the hospital and check on how you are doing. I can bring you a home cooked meal and help with any nursing issues (check latch, that kind of thing).

Postpartum visit

  • My birth packages come with one postpartum visit. This is usually a time for you to process your birth experience. This is an important part of integration into motherhood and I never tire of hearing people’s birth stories from their perspective!
